Codecademy
In the theme of new years resolutions, I signed up for Code Year at Codecademy. Code Year is a program where you receive a new coding lesson from Codecademy each week. I have done the few available lessons they have so far and overall I have to say I have really enjoyed the experience and lessons, even though I already have a few years of experience with Javascript.
Yes:
I really like how a new course is given every week. It gives me something to do over coffee on the weekends.
I am not an achievement whore, or at least I like to tell myself that, but I really like the badges and points.
I have learned some interesting things about JavaScript that I did not know before
No:
The login doesn’t seem to be over a SSL connection.
Wish:
I wish they provided hard challenges, but they just started so I am sure they will implement this in the near future.
I can’t wait until they start writing lessons in other languages like Ruby, Python, Go, etc…
So far I have really enjoyed the coding lessons I have done at Codecademy and can’t wait to see the progress on the application throughout the year. Its been really interesting coming back to Codecademy each week and seeing new features in their editor and lessons. I really have high expectations for the Codecademy team and hopefully I will learn some great things this year from their site!
